Mining Emergency Response Job Overview

Lumwana Mining Company, a Barrick Gold operation in Zambia, is currently hiring an Emergency Response Technician (ERT) / Fire Fighter to join our Health and Safety team. This position offers competitive mining industry benefits and is based at our Kalumbila mine site.

Key Emergency Response Responsibilities

As an Emergency Response Technician at Lumwana Mine, you will provide critical emergency services including:

Lead fire fighting and fire safety system maintenance
Conduct mine rescue operations
Perform vehicle and road accident rescue
Execute rope rescue and height operations
Handle hazardous materials (HAZMAT) response
Provide ambulance and medical emergency services
Maintain emergency equipment
Support township and community emergency needs

Essential Duties

Lead emergency response operations across Lumwana mine site
Perform equipment maintenance and testing according to mining safety standards
Manage fire safety systems and conduct regular inspections
Compile safety reports and maintain emergency response documentation
Ensure 24/7 emergency preparedness for mining operations
Conduct emergency drills and training exercises
Provide first aid and medical emergency response

Required Qualifications

Grade 12 Certificate with full school leaving
Professional Fire Fighting Certificate from recognized Zambian institution
Valid Zambian driver’s license (Class C)
2+ years mining emergency response experience
Strong English communication skills
Physical fitness and ability to pass mining medical examination

Preferred Qualifications

Mine rescue certification
Advanced fire officer training
First Aid certification
Hazmat handling certification
Mining industry emergency response experience
Rope rescue and confined space rescue certification
