Job Overview

As Senior Metallurgist, you will lead efforts to optimize the flotation plant’s metallurgical performance, ensuring high recovery rates and top-quality concentrate. Reporting to the Superintendent Technical, your responsibilities will include monitoring and improving plant operations through data analysis, troubleshooting, and strategic planning. This is a key role in achieving ongoing operational excellence at one of the top mining companies in Zambia.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the optimization of the flotation metallurgical process.

Ensure compliance with Zambian Mining Regulations and HSE standards.

Develop and execute strategies to improve recovery, concentrate quality, and tails grade.

Provide technical support to plant personnel and monitor process performance indicators.

Conduct troubleshooting and testing to enhance plant performance.

Collaborate with Metallurgists, Process Control Engineers, and other departments.

Oversee the training and supervision of junior staff and ensure knowledge transfer to local employees.

Key Competencies

Strong leadership and communication skills.

Excellent analytical abilities for troubleshooting and process improvement.

Familiarity with process control systems (e.g., PI Process Book) and data analysis.

Ability to handle complex metallurgical data and implement control strategies.

Fluency in English and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Qualifications and Experience

A Degree in Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, or Mineral Processing.

At least 8 years of experience in base metal flotation operations.

Expertise in metallurgical optimization and process control systems.

Eligible for membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
